People often ask, "What is Reiki?" While scientific research exists on energy healing, the most comprehensive understanding often comes from personal experiences with Reiki itself.


My journey with Reiki began over two decades ago, initially filled with curiosity and skepticism. However, my first session was transformative, providing support during my recovery, helping to release blocked emotions, and alleviating physical pain. With each subsequent session, I experienced a profound sense of calm and clarity.


As I deepened my practice, becoming a Reiki practitioner and eventually a Reiki Master/Teacher, I observed the significant benefits Reiki had on others as well.


Understanding Reiki

If you're unfamiliar with Reiki, this guide explains what to expect during a session, how Reiki works, and its numerous benefits. At its core, Reiki is based on the concept that all living things are surrounded by a life force energy known as “Ki,” “Chi,” or “Prana.” When this energy flows freely, we experience health and vitality. However, stress, trauma, or emotional challenges can disrupt this flow.


Reiki practitioners act as conduits for this universal energy, channeling it to your body and energy field to:


  • Clear energy blockages

  • Rebalance energy levels

  • Restore harmony on the physical, emotional, and spiritual levels

What to Expect During a Reiki Session

  • Pregnant women, children, and even pets!


Session Overview


Setting: Sessions typically occur in a quiet room with soft lighting and soothing music to create a serene atmosphere. You’ll remain fully clothed, either lying on a massage table or sitting comfortably.

Duration: Most sessions last between 45 to 90 minutes. Practitioners use gentle, non-invasive methods to channel energy through:

  • Light Touch: Hands placed on or just above specific areas of your body.

  • No Touch: Energy work conducted entirely within your energy field, depending on your preference.

Pre-Session Consultation: Before starting, the practitioner may ask about your physical and emotional state, specific concerns, and your goals for the session to tailor the experience to your needs.

Feelings During the Session: You may experience warmth, tingling, or gentle pulsations where the practitioner’s hands are placed. Some report a floating sensation or deep relaxation. Falling asleep during a session is also common and entirely normal.

Post-Session Discussion: After the session, practitioners may share their observations and invite you to discuss your experience, which often leaves you feeling calm, centered, and rejuvenated.


Reiki as a Complementary Therapy


It's essential to understand that Reiki is not a substitute for professional medical treatment but serves as a complementary therapy. It enhances overall well-being, supporting the body’s natural healing process. Reiki encourages individuals to engage in their healing journey rather than providing a quick fix.
